Love it!
Finally hit the 10 year mark with my rambler! Without a doubt, the most durable and timeless bag I have ever invested in. Originally purchased for backpacking in college, I use it for just about everything - day trips to the lake, weekend bag for airport travel, etc. I have tried other trendy/modern/REI type day trip bags and none of them come remotely close to this in terms of quality and looks.
I purchased this pack to keep my winter gear in my truck. I use it for that but and much more. I take it when I go for week long camping trips (or longer) and I get my stuff in it and everything for the dogs as well.
Have owned one of these packs for over 15 years. Great quality, very durable. Still many years left in this one.
I bought this pack as an all around pack for camping, work, and anything in-between. I was a little nervous with how it would fit since there is no support along the back, but it is comfortable, stores more than I expected, and will hold up to many years of use!
When I joined the military years ago the thing that shocked me most was the number of text books and items of clothing I was expected to carry around on a daily basis even after boot camp and how heavy, uncomfortable, and cheap The backpacks we were issued were. But the regulations specified I could have any bag I wanted as long as it was black so first paycheck I orderes one of these babies and it was a godsend. It didn't have padded straps, chest buckles, or a shape preserving wire frame, but it weighed a fraction of what the other bags did and had more carrying capacity even though it didn't have a bazillion pockets and the side cylinders were perfect for canteens. When we had to put on our bags and crawl across a football field and do other physical training my bag was lighter and more comfortable but held more gear than anyone else's. This thing lasted me through a six year tour of duty and I used it at college when I got out. It went with me cross country as I drove from California to Texas and then from Texas up to Alaska and back to Texas, and none of the changing weather harmed it at all. 11 years later this thing doesn't so much as have a hole in it and it's still as sturdy as ever. The husband bought one of those "fancy" bags with tons of buckles, pockets, frame and what not from the base exchange and that thing started to fall apart after six months, I mean he still uses it but the extra buckles broke off, the zipper fell off, its got holes, and the frame bent, and it weighs 15 pounds all by itself. As the only minnesotan in my unit it shocked me no one else had heard of duluth pack until they saw mine and wanted to know where I got it. I know at least 2 soldiers and a marine who got one on my recommendation and loved them. I still use this thing everytime I go on a trip, flying, driving, and it's amazing how much it holds while still being able to squish under a plane seat. Basically, it's the perfect backpack.
Purchased the Rambler pack a few years ago. Have used it a few times so far, and really like it. I purchased it for the general capacity and configuration, but specifically for the zippered pouch in the back. It holds a good amount, I use water resistant "diddy bags" to organize contents. My only constructive critique of it is...although I have not yet had any issue with it....I wish they would provide a bit "heavier" zipper on that rear pouch.\n\nMD
My wife bought a customized Rambler for me as a college graduation gift 10 years ago. I' ve used it as an every day carry-all for work, weekend hiking, as my carry-on for all my travel...everything. The capacity is amazing. I cannot imagine ever needing to replace it, as it only gets better with age. It is my pack forever.
I liked the rambler due to its size but wanted some extras. So I customized it by adding the leather shoulder straps (and lengthened them) and a buckle flap front pocket instead of the zipper pocket. It cost $90 for the customization ($45/per add-on), which wasn't too bad. Initially the front pocket wasn't right size, but talked with Customer Service and they had me send it back. I did have to pay for that shipping. \nI got it back in time for my trip to Taiwan. I was able to fit 10-days worth of clothing, some books and 2 extra pairs of shoes. Didn't have to check a bag! When I came back, the customs agent couldn't believe I had everything in just 1 bag. Leather needs some breaking in, but its been a great bag so far.
I've been using my Rambler since 2009, and it has aged very well. Has that nice broken in feeling that took awhile to achieve. First rate quality build and I'm very happy after using it mostly for travel. It's been checked baggage, carry on luggage, thrown into trunks and in and out of tents with no real signs of wear anywhere. I do have a couple of things I don't like though. It swallows so much stuff that I usually overpack when using it-I know, my problem not theirs. But it seriously hauls a ton of stuff with no issues. The one real issue is that the rivets for the back strap are rough on the inside of the pack and can snag (technical type especially) material as it gets stuffed in or pulled out of a full pack. A canvas cover of some kind would be great. While that feels nitpicky, it's the only con I could think of after 8 years of use. No regrets, and expect it to last long after I'm done with it.

I cannot review the pack because it was never received but can say I was very unimpressed with the customer service provided by Julie Lundberg.
